Stray Cats
Started By
So there is this stray cat who I named Pop-Tart. He is a friendly male and blind in 1 eye { born that way}. He is small-ish adult cat I have 3 cats and 1 dog he is ok with the dog and terrible with my oldest dominant male. I am thinking of giving him to my grandma but she already has1 male cat so I am afraid Pop-Tart will ressent him because they are both males. I wanna bring him to a shelter but who is gonna buy a adult male cat who is blind. They could always neuter and realise but that only makes him not reproduce. I am moving and I can't leave him here what shoul I do ? and is it true strays go crazy indoors?

I've adopted several stray cats over the years and never had any problems. I've even caught ferals who were difficult at first, but adjusted just fine to being indoors. Stray cats usually adjust very well and act pretty normal inside, though their instincts are more honed. They tend to spook a bit easier and males do have issues for a while with other males but in the cases I've dealt with, it usually fades, mostly. Adopted male strays, no matter how long you have them, seem slightly more cantankerous around other males. At least, in my case. Cranky, mind you, not violent.

However, you might want to look into no kill shelters in your current area and the one you're moving to, and where ever your grandma lives. You could try adopting him or giving him to your grandma temporarily, just to see how it works out. If he doesn't adjust well, take him to a no kill shelter. I know that if I was looking to adopt a cat, myself, I'd go for the special needs kitty. Like I said, I've had ferals and strays, and I used to have a tom with just one eye. I'd personally adopt him in a heartbeat. :) If you keep him inside for a while before taking him to the shelter, that can help him adjust and get adopted.

You can ask the shelter if they put out advertisements for their animals, and if so, ask them to advertise him honestly. A lot of people like to help and give special needs animals a chance.
